If You Want to be Saved then…Say So!

God wants you to be His son or daughter. The question is – “What do you want?” It all boils down to choice. Do you want God as your Father or not?

You see, God already made peace with you when His Son Jesus died (II Corinthians 5:19 NLT). The day Jesus died, all your failures, your guilt, and your shame was removed from you and put on Jesus. You no longer owned your sin – Jesus owned it, because He took it away from you (I John 3:5 NLT). Justice demands that wrongdoing has to be punished, and Scripture says the penalty for sin is death (Romans 6:23 NLT). Since God made you clean the moment Jesus took away all your sins, guess who had to die instead of you. He did – the Savior who never sinned himself (II Corinthians 5:21 NLT).

But all that sin couldn’t stick to him once it was paid for. The Father came looking for the Son and breathed life back into him, raising him from the dead (Acts 2:23-24 NLT). Because Jesus lives forever, you and I can live forever too (I John 5:11-12 NLT).

I just finished telling you that you’re clean right now. Does that mean you’re saved? Not yet! This salvation is a free gift to you, and you haven’t said you want it.

God never forces you to do anything you don’t want to do. He gave you a free will which means He’s not going to say – “You must take this gift I’m giving you.” He’s leaving it up to you to make your own choice. God hopes you’ll choose His gift of salvation and let Jesus become the Lord of your life, because He knows you’ll be a lot happier if you do.

Here’s a list of some of the things people think and do that keeps them from being saved –

  • They rely on being baptized as a baby for their salvation. This doesn’t work, because an infant can’t make a free will choice.
  • They try to earn their way into Heaven by being extra good. God’s way gives everybody an equal chance to become His son or daughter. He doesn’t need to keep a scorecard on your behavior and cancel out your good deeds when you slip up (Ephesians 2:8-9 NLT and Romans 4:4-8 NLT).
  • They think they’re too bad. Jesus’s death shows you how important you are to God. You were important enough to die for (Romans 5:8).
  • They think going to church saves them. The church isn’t the boss of your free will – you are.

So what are you going to DO about it?

I’m asking you to decide with your will if you want to become a child of God today. It’s a very simple process. This is what the Scripture says to do to get saved –

“If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.” (Romans 10:9-10 NLT)

In other words, if you want to be saved…say so!

Here’s a prayer to say if you’re not sure what to do –

Father, I believe Jesus died for my sins and rose from the dead. I want to turn from my old ways and let Jesus be Lord of my life. Thank you. Amen.

You are a brand new person now, and the Spirit of the Living God lives in you. Scripture says –

“Therefore if any person is [ingrafted] in Christ (the Messiah) he is a new creation (a new creature altogether); the old [previous moral and spiritual condition] has passed away. Behold, the fresh and new has come!” (II Corinthians 5:17 AMP)

You are going to want to get to know your new Father and Jesus. Here’s a few suggestions to get you started –

  • Get yourself a Bible. The New Living Translation is easy to read. Start reading the New Testament, and ask God’s Holy Spirit to teach you. Luke 15 will show you just how important you are to God. The book of Romans will explain exactly what Christ Jesus did for you.
  • Start looking for a church. Christians are meant to support one another. Consider going to church online while you’re looking for somewhere to put down roots. I recommend checking out myfaithfamily.com and listening to past sermons from the archives. You can also watch services live on Sundays at 10 am and Wednesdays at 7 pm. If you do this, pretty soon you’ll know for sure God is a good God who is always on your side, rooting for you and helping you.
  • Find out where you can get water baptized. Water baptism is a public show of what happened to you. Scripture says when Christ was buried, your old life was buried too, and when Christ was raised from the dead, you were raised with Him to new life (Romans 6:3-5 NLT).
